Hi, I am looking for any information on family from Otaki or beyond if possible from the Hakaraia whanau.
My nan was Hilda Hakaraia (nee Bevan - at least the name Bevan is what i was told) and she was married to Samual Hakaraia in the 30's? at Otaki.
Does anyone have any idea where my grandfather may have originated?
Im a little confused about the surname spelling now as after looking through some sites my original spelling of Hakaria kept being questioned as Hakaraia.
Would appreciate any information at all.
Thanks, Kev

Kia ora kevin, i am a hakaraia and am also knterested in learning more about where the hakaraias came from. I can tell you that my hakaraia family cone from kakariki near halcome and there are a couple who run the wharenui/church there, Danny and Maru Goddard. Maru is a hakaraia and seems very knowledgeable about the hakaraias. Find her on facebook and send her a message with your query.
