Hi, does anyone know any info on my Great great Grandmother Merirutu Kakewahine. She married a European guy from Cook Islands, name John Stapleton. They had a daughter name Heni Stapleton. Heni married a European guy name Charles Obrien. Heni is from Ngati Kahungunu. I have been given some info on the family tree. A chief name Taraia is on Merirutu's tree. I read that Taraia was Kahungunu and Rongomaiwahine's great grandson. If anyone can help with this info please let me know.

My Partner's Great Great Grandmothers name is Merirutu Kakewahine aswell.

His mother is Robin nee is Woods, then HER mums name is Esma O'BRIEN...then Her mothers name was Hine STAPLETON(nee ..???)....then her mother was Merirutu KAKEWAHINE....not sure if the name is her real name but could have been a nickname...mmm...\

And they all lived in the HawkesBay Region...originated i think from WAIROA...but i do know that they were from the NGATI-KAHANGUNU Tribe...hope this helps...
