The Mahara whanau is a huge whanau. The whanau originates from Okapu Marae in Kawhia. Get in touch with the marae and make contact with someone from there. Your whanau still living at Okapu. They have whanau houses situated on the marae itself. There is also a auty of yours Carol Mahara that lives here in christchurch she will be able to give you some info. Her number is christchurch 03 980-5298. Carol is the only contact number I have from the whanau.

It shouldn't a prob now for you to search for the Mahara whanau

Visit the website aotea.maori.nz
It is maintained by whanau from Okapu Marae and has some of the Maharas on it.
