I am wanting any relevant information about my Grandfather Hori Kira Mio who resided in Torere. He was a Interpreter for Dept of Maori Affairs. Was well known in that area married to Rawinia Kopae, Poroporo, Whakatane. I have done many searches but haven't found anything as yet. I'd appreciate any help.

The ancestral line of your grandfather is originally from Nga Puhi. Kingi Hori Kira is the tupuna of the Kira whanau. Kingi Hori Kira's grandfather was Haumia whom was a brother of Te Hotete [father of Hongi Hika].

Ko Te Wairua ka moe ia a Te Waikainga
Ka puta mai a Te Auwha
Ko Te Auwha ka moe ia a Te Pehirangi
Ka puta mai a Haumia raua ko Te Hotete
Ko Haumia ka puta mai a Ururangi
Ko Ururangi ka moe ia a Pukeariki
Ka puta mai a Kingi Hori Kira
Ko Kingi Hori Kira ka moe ia a Ngau [1st wife of Te Arawa]
Ko Kingi Hori Kira ka moe ia a Mere Putaatua [2nd wife]
Ko Kingi Hori Kira ka moe ia a Te Kuri [3rd wife]

Hohaia.
