Hi Bill, looked on bdmhistoricalrecords.govt.nz. No Hunia Young but a few Wiremu Hunia:b.4.1.1887 Waikare, d.1918; d.1908,50yrs; d.5.1.1937,82 yrs,Whatatu; b.22.7.1930,d.2005(Wiremu Hapi Hunia); d.1930,60 yrs. Any of these ring a bell? If so we may need to fork out $20 for copy of death cert. to get more info. Registration numbers on bdm site.

Would you have a approximate death date for Wiremu Hunia? If not I have looked up Maori Death records and have found the following:
Wiremu Hunia death 1943/cert No:1973/43
Wiremu Hunia death 1937/cert No: 21
Wiremu Hunia death 1929/cert No: 625/30
Wiremu Hunia death 1933/cert No: 665
I can help you with microfiche records for Maori births/deaths and marriages from 1911-1961 only. Hope you find what you are looking for. If you are interested in checking the record in more detail contact NZ B/D/M and order the certificate for the standard fee.
