Hi I am trying to find information on Ngakuru's children.
I am researching this family for an old family friend.
I have a son George Hardiman Penney = Elizabeth Hopa.
I would appreciate some help about these two.
I also need information about Elizabeth Hopa, she was whangai I suspect, an possibly from the Waikato district, but don't know who whangai her. there is an enrollment form for the Mercer school, but she must have gone to the North at some stage.
Any help would be much appreciated
Kia ora Sunny,
Ngakuru was my great grandfather. He had 7 children. In order of birth,
Robert, Maggie, Fred, Arthur, George(Mawete), Mary(Tahaaora) and my grandmother Louise. I remember aunty saying that her mother Elizabeth was whangai to a green grocer in Papakura. I will ring her and ask her.
Oh my gosh I wasnt expecting a relpy quite so soon!
Thank you so much I would really appreciate your help with this
I am doing this for a very close family friend whose family is possible and probably 🙂 a relative of yours!
Any information would be of immense help, I seem to have come to a dead end!
Ah I didnt know George had the name Mawete, I had found his 2nd name as Hardiman, or is this another George Penney?
I am aware that there were at least 2 other Penney families in the North at that time, one belonging to the Kiwikiwi whanau, Arihi being my great Aunt.
And the info about Elizabeth is very helpful, if you can find more that would be fantastic, Iv come to a halt, not sure if she was born in the North or the Waikato.
I thank you for your generous offer of help with this
Kia ora Sunny,
I rang my aunty straight after posting that last message. I was half right. Elizabeths real parents were the people in Papakura or at least a suburb in Auckland starting with P. She was whangai to those guys down Mercer ways, but aunty has the names of her real parents. I wasn't aware that Georges middle name was Hardiman. Georges mother was Maraea, Maraea mother was Tahuripo(Raiha) and Tahuripo mother was Ihapera whose husband was a Hardiman. The Hardimans built the first pub in Rawene and it was called The Harp of Erin. We got the right peoples.
When I rang and told aunty about this post of yours, she made me read it out to her. All I could tell her about the person that was inquiring was Sunny and that It was on behalf. She needs to know more before I can give her contact details to anyone. The name of the person of who you are inquiring for and why. I will await your reply,
kia ora Steve
Thank you so much for this info. its really appreciated.
I have sent you a PM so hopefully that will answer the questions 😉
Yes I am on the right track, I have Maraea and her Mother Raiha and Ihapera so thanks for confirming that, very important to get it right. I had also found the pub as well. I have found George with a coach business as well... that is horse an coach in those days. Also Roberts father coming from White chapel in England, but not sure how come Robert came, but no Mother, will have to look further in England. I look forward to hearing from you again soon, and again, many thanks.
