Can anyone tell me about the Kaiaio Marae in Te Kaha? I would like to know about the carvings. I was told that my great grandfather (Tame POATA) and his brother (Robert PORTER) did some carvings on the marae. I would also like to know the date of when it was built.
The book "Painted Histories" may help you. Fanny Porter is buried just along the road from the marae and the whanau whakapapa back to the Whanau a KAZiaio hapu.
