Tena koe 'huiabird'

'Ngati Hineuru' is a hapu of Ngati Tuwharetoa. The marae is 'Te Haroto', located near the old Taupo-Napier highway. The tupuna 'Hineuru' was from Ngati Kahungunu. As a hapu of Tuwharetoa, the waka would be 'Te Arawa', but because of very strong whakapapa links with Kahungunu 'Takitimu' is another waka.

Hope this korero helps. Mauriora ki a koe.

PS. I've been told there is also a 'Ngati Hineuru' in Taranaki, a hapu of Te Atiawa (I think). Perhaps others have some korero about this.

Noho ora mai

Tena koe huiabird, just a quick response to one of the messages sent to you of Ngati Hineuru being a hapu of Tuwharetoa ... this is not so, Hineuru is its own identity, so if you do whakapapa to this Iwi it is known as Hineuru te Iwi

Kiaora
