Kia ora,
I am trying to gather research on my hapu Ngati Kuri from Ruatahuna in Te Urewera.
I am interested in absolutely any info about Ngati Kuri and Kuri Kino himself, also how the hapu came to reside at Te Waiiti in Ruatahuna.
Nga mihi

Kia ora Melissa,
Unless there are two places over there with the same name Te Waiiti is miles before Ruatahuna.
It's location is about mid way between Murupara and Minganui.
They may come under Ngati Kuri o Ruatahuna I don't know.

One likely place although a bit of the beaten track to try is the Conservancy Office for D.O.C. in Gisborne or their field station at Anewanewa, both these places have very close connections with Ruatahuna and I'm sure someone in their office will be able to help.

cheers.

Kia ora e hoa,
There are two hapū in Te Urewera with a similar sounding name, Te Whaiti which is the one in between Murupara and Minginui and Te Waiiti (my marae) about 10mins past the Ruatahuna store.
Kia ora for the idea of contacting doc 🙂
