Importing Forum Archives 16 January 2018

Tonight around midnight we will be importing the forum archives into this forum.  We had thought about doing in in a couple of weeks time, but alot of people coming here from google searches are looking for the information in those archives so we want to get that data back online now.

We will have to put the site into maintenance mode while this is being done as there are major changes to the database.  We are importing about 4000 members and over 16,000 posts - even we did not realise how much data we have!  The exciting thing is that all of this will be searchable from the Forum Search, instead of having to use a different search area like we had in our old site.

Once the import is done, we have to tie the data from the old forums to the members who are current and were also members of the old forums.  This is so they can find all of their posts over the years.

Our @webmaster has prepared the old databases so some of the importing will be straight forward, but other parts could take a while.  This should take between 2 to 6 hours to complete and we will be back online around 6am Wednesday 18 January 2018 at the latest.

Backed up db (database), put site into maintenance, loaded all users worked nicely.

put site back into viewing mode, logged out to check that users where there and locked myself out and counldn't get back in so decided to restore site. 1 hour later finally got it restored back to where it was before I started 2 hours ago.

Uploaded the users again and now I have lost 400 users.  Had a look to see who I have lost but no joy. Not my night so not even going to try and add the database now - will have a moe then see if I can find who is missing, get them into there then look at transfering over the forums.

Got the main archive db into this forum adding about 14,000 records all fully searchable using the forums search.

Still got one more to do, but it is a small archive. If you want to browse them go to the forums main page and scroll to the bottom where you will see them.

I really appreciate all the hard mahi @webmaster and having our old archives searchable through the forums search is brilliant!

Just found on my profile under activity I can see my old posts - a great trip down memory lane 🙂
