Trying to track down whakapapa of our great grandfather. We know about the Peitas originating from Northland but we are now at a dead end because no one can recall the name Hatata. Can you help please??? Any knowledge about my great grandmother would be appreciated too. Thanks!

Hatata Peita was our great grandfather and he was from Ruatoki, not Northland. He is buried at the Urupa of Te Rewarewa Marae Ruatoki.
Our great grandmother Pahere Pei I believe was born in Ruatoki
....not sure yet Im still researching. But I do know her father was Pei Taumata and her mother was Te Owai Te Waaka. They had three issues
Pihikau or Tamahou (m) Renata (m)(My grandfather)and a daughter Te Owai.
Koro Hatata married again to Karu Kehekehe or Terewai and had six more issues -Mere-Kahu-Tahae-Pirihita or Noti-Te Hani and Hoani or Johnny Cash as I know him by.....he is the only surviving issue of Koro Hatata and lives in Ruatoki.
I hope this helps you

Wally Peita lives in Porirua and is a very knoledgable kaumatua. You may want to consider talking to him. Also there are photos of some of the Peita Whanau at Motatau Marae
Hope this helps
