Tena koe Janice
the name Tanirau is in the Ngati Apakura (of Tainui) whakapapa. He was the beginning of the male line within Ngati Rangimahora and Ngati Hinetu, both sub-hapu of Ngati Apakura.
From him came the later generations of Kaa, Ngaha, Taratu, Whakamau, Kingi, Coromandel and other families prevalent in South Auckland and Tainui today.
Bearing in mind your name is Tanerau there maight not be a connection however, you might like to try John Ngaha of Mangere (he's in the book)to authenticate any queries you may have.
He is quite knowledgeable on Ngati Apakura.
Kia ora
