Looking for information on a Maori Chief who had Te Iwi Ngaro as part of his name. He may have lived on the Coromandel.

I know of a man named Te Iwi Ngaro Matiaha who was Chief of Ngati kohua.

However he did not live in Coromandel although he may have had connections with Ngati Paoa and Ngati Makirangi.

May I ask why you search?

This is the line I am interested in also - any info you can share re Te Iwingaro Matiaha most appreciated. My understanding is that he was either the father or grandfather of Huiputea, Taramaiwhatu & Ngarotopounamu. My husband is a descendent of both Taramaiwhatu & Huiputea. I am working on compiling their descendents but would dearly love to be able to trace back further. There seem to be an abundance of Matahurians on here!!! Awesome!!
