Kia ora,

Yeah! we're here, in fact 79 of us have read your posting to date but no replies have been posted.

Could it be that replying to your posting, poses a bigger problem of "Too much information to handle in one go? Time maybe needed to process it all, before responding to your request."

All power to you for the mahi you undertake!

Kia Ora Jai

I have a few corrections to do on the whakapapa.

* Herepeti is actually Hepeti Henare who married Mariata Thomas

* Tiari is actually Tairi which is Ripeka's middle name who married (1)Henare Hemi (2) Pere Waaka

* On my whakapapa records I have Te Pukeroa who married Ripeka (Te Kanawa Daughter)as the parents of Henare Tuauru Pukeroa, not Tuauru as the parent. In fact I'm not sure who he is this Tuauru. Perhaps someone can tell me cos my cousin and my uncle don't have him either. (Sorry I'm not critising just want things done properly).

Okey that's me for now, I'm going to do do some more research. I'll holla back at ya all when I get some more info.

Arohamai Jai I'm still waiting for my uncle to send me the whakapapa. I'd go and get it but he lives in the far north and I live in the South Island.

Tena Koe Cuzin!

Excuse the slight delay.

My son and I have been down your way this past week.
We had planned on doin' the Deep Sea fishing out of Greymouth mahi.
BUT the Raging Surf/Weather had other ideas!
It's Absolutely Breathtaking on the Coast!

So..

We got in the BRUCE BAY to PUNAKAIKI touristy thang..
It's AWESOME down there on the West Coast!
Very Friendly and Helpful people too.

Any Wayz...

Back to Business..

PAPA KARENA

"Iwi- Te Rarawa
Hapu- Parewhero
His Papa- HENARE APERAHAMA PUKEROA
His Mama- HOANA RUHE PUKEROA

Born 1918 in Waikeri
Grew Up in Waikeri (West Coast nth of Herkino Harbour)

Both Parents buried in the Wahi Tapu in Waikeri.

All Families in Waikeri were related.

Our own land a block about 400 acres called Manukau 1B1.

The Main Kaumatua in Waikeri were Aperahama(Te Kopa)Te Pukeroa and Tuauru Te Pukeroa.

The only way in and out of Waikeri was on horseback.

We had big gardens growing kumara, potatoes and other crops.

The families at Waikeri dug for Kauri Gum.
That was the only way we had of earning a living.

We bought the gum north to Ahipara on horses to sell to Tom Houston.

In those days the Sea was part of our everyday life."

this is just part of his afidavit sworn in 1989 at 71 yrs.

I have received this and other information from reliable sources over the years.
Mainly Papa,Nana,Uncle Haimona,Uncle Kaipuke,Dame Joan Metge,Aunty Ripekahana.

NOW this is where the other "outlaws" need to add their bits of information(GEORGIE,ELIZABETH!! Where are you??!)

I'm reluctant to add YOUR info here.

Ariana, I would love to speak with your Uncle and Cousin as to their sources of info and where/when they received this.

What age are your uncle and cousin?
Did they grow up in Waikeri also?

If they did, We may have some REAL treasures still with us and we must document WHATEVER they can remember.

I am reluctant to change any of what was given to me from my Papa.
He Lived it and Knew these people very well.

He had no reason to leave out or twist his facts.
He is my most reliable source, although no longer with us.

Papa was referred to many times as "The MAN" because everyone who knew him loved and respected him so very much. Just because he was such a Humble,Quiet,Hardworking,Honest,Soft Spoken Man.

He was the Real Deal who let his Actions speak Louder.

I remember the "paper work" always doing his head in when it came to filling out forms and explaining himself to everyone on paper.
Poor Papa needed a secretary/personal assistant/red tape interpreter

The other thing he really despised was "Soap Opera" or Drama.

Just taking a trip down memory lane

Thank You for your input ARI.

Hows about we put these names in brackets for now until we can confirm for real with other references and if ever their side turn up they can put us right once and for all.

I have made notes for Herepeti(Hepeti Henare)& Ripeka(Tairi,Tiari,Taeri)

I have too many references referring to and confirming the existence of Tuauru and Te Kopa being of Huge Influence/Power as Kaumatua in Waikeri.
Also the 2 who held Parewhero together.
Other kaumatua mentioned are Waitai Te Paa and Himiona Moses.

And please keep posting your questions/queries/corrections because this is possibly the only way for us to clear this up successfully.

Another very important thing to note is..

Life is just WAY too short to get offended so no matter what it is it's all relevant no matter how (big)or(small).

Keep it comin' cuzin

Hey Ariana,

Just one more thing referring to your previous letter regarding Te Pukeroa and Ripeka and (Sister/Aunty?) dropped at Whangarei?

Your Uncle may be getting mixed up with REITU & REIPAE.

They are related BUT not through this DIRECT connection.

We want to keep focussed on OUR DIRECT lines first before we go further out with the external lines.

Keep Searching For Truth and Peace Cuz..

Hey Cuzin,

I have been informed from more than 3 people (MATTHEW 18:16b)including a descendant of this couple that

*HEPETI HENARE=MARIATA HARATA WIREMU-TAMATI KAWHENA(MARIATA THOMAS).

I have made the necessary corrections this way.
I will be adding other pages for discussion at the end of each Individual Family Line. Explaining the mix ups and akas used by the Ancestors.

Also

*TE KAREHU is also known as KOHI!:) Case solved!

Excellent Stuff Whanau!

Aroha 2 All.
Keep those puzzle peices coming..We are definately getting there AYE?!
