Kia ora ChrisM,

If you go to www.familysearch.org and put Kairakau in the surname (without the macrons) you will be able to find a record for Riwai - this may help you. NOTE: not all the information in that site is accurate, but it may give you a place to start

Nau te raurau,
Naku te raurau,
Ka ora ai nga tangata!

Together we will get there!
