Seeking information on: Waikaukau EWAI who was the partner of Edward Sydney (Ned) YATES, a Jewish man from London. They had ten children, who were born in Ahipara, between 1863 and 1883.

I am told that she said to one of her children that “she was from the Ngati Kuri tribe, a sub-tribe of Te Rarawa”. She is believed to have died at Whangaroa, Northland and to have been born in that area.

Some time ago there was a Post on this message board about Waikaukau from someone called “Beloved Gardener” and I would like to contact that person or anyone else searching for this couple or their descendants and share knowledge. I have a fair bit of information about them now.

To beloved gardener. About two weeks ago I sent you, as requested, an email to belovedgardener@gmail.com. I put "Waikaukau EWAI" in the subject area. I hope you reply soon. If you see this please check your emails, because it should be still there.

Cheers for now

I had to re-register also as my old login had disappeared. OK now tho.

I do not have information on Waikaukau Ewai but I know a reasearcher who is descended from her and Sydney Yates and I know that he is a very keen and experienced Yates researcher. If you have not been in touch with Alan let me know and I will send you his address.

Good luck
