Kia ora ruta,

Would you be able to tell us which branch of the Herewini whanau your grandfathers father, Wiremu Herewini is from?

There are several Herewini whanau around the motu and if you know which branch that would be a big help 🙂

Good luck!

Kia ora ruta,
Wiremu Herewini : mother Hariata Gundry was my grandmother's brother. My grandmother was Hueta. Their father was Rota Herewini. Rota Herewini came from Hoera Tere = Hueta Ruriruri. Also from Hoera Tere was Ngatai Mita and Pokere.
My grandmother Hueta married Paroa Apanui.
Hope this helps.
Kia Ora

Kia ora. I think I have seen the name Gundry around earliest Hokianga settler records. don't know if that's of any help or not.
Best wishes in your search.
