Kia ora @myfatcat, thank you so much for your post which doesn't seem to have shown up yet but I received notification of it by email. So very exciting to get a response , especially the marae connections.
Here is what I think I know; my great, great grandmother was Heeni Waaka (Hurua's sister), daughter of Panatita & Hori.
Heeni married Haki Fox, and one of their children was Mere Heeni Fox who married Hopa Te Pairi.
One of their children was Henare Te Pairi who later changed his name to Evans as Mere had a second husband Bill Evans.
Henare Evans had 3 wives (?) and there are a number of children from these relationships. My father John is one of three children born to Henare and Tinikawhena (Mereana/Jean) Peri.
My brothers and I were raised in the South Island and have had very limited contact with whanau but I have a need to learn more. I never met my grandfather but I have one photo of him that I was given over 20 years ago.
I'll welcome any info, stories, good and bad etc. I look forward to hearing from any of you whanau out there in the know.
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to contact me directly.
Nga mihi nui, Anita

I have been doing some Rangahau on my fathers side of the whaanau & I have come across your post & I see that John is your father born to Henare Evans & Mereana/Jean Peri. As it goes I have just met with my aunty Lil on Friday just gone for the first time in 27 years & she has informed me that it is only her & her brother John still alive & that Henare & Mereana were her parents but was brought up with Nana & her Husband Jim Knowles. my father is Patrick now deceased for 27 years. He was a brother to Lil & John. I too am only just learning about my whakapapa on my fathers side. it has been awesome reading your whakapapa.
Kia ora cousin,
I'm so sorry I never received notification of your post and I've just come across it in another forum. I'm so glad I have. I remember Uncle Patrick well. He was always really kind to me and wrote to me when I was a teenager. I haven't seen Aunty Lil for years but know they're all on Perth. We were brought up down south away from all dads whanau. I would really love to hear from you. My email is email@example.com
Yes we definitely are whanau and it's so so exciting for our very small whanau in Õtautahi.
Not sure what's happened but I don't seem to have received notification of recent posts.
I joined up to the my heritage site. I was so excited to look at it. Thank you so much for that.
If you do have copies of whakapapa that you can email me and I can print off I would be very appreciative.
Also do you please have any contact details for the Mendoza and Tupuna whanau that you suggested may have info?
My email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ngā mihi for your help
