KAWAHE TUERA- wife of Kerei Mangonui
Hi all, one of my tupuna, Ruiha Hinewhare , according to land court minutes lived with Kerei Mangonui and his wife Tuera Kawahe for a while. It said, she was a cousin of Tuera Kawahe.
I was wanting to find out more about Tuera, who her parents were, and any other details.I am not sure if they had any children ( Kerei and Tuera).
Kia ora Adrienne
Amongst my stuff I have a little about a Kerei Mangonui and his wife Kawahe. I have copies of documents with their names mentioned but it is other peoples work and as such I treat it as information to use for further research and confirmation.
It seems that Kerei Mangonui (Ngapuhi) and Kawahe had at least one son, Hori Ngawati who married Ruhia Te Whiwhi, daughter of Matene Te Whiwhi. and Pipi Ipurape.
Matene Te Whiwhi is the well known son of Topeora, nephew of Te Rangihaeata, grandson of Waitohi and closely related to Te Rauparaha so it is easy to find his whakapapa but I do have information about him and his connections.
Pipi Ipurape was the 'adopted' daughter of Te Rangihaeata, but that could mean anything, perhaps under his protection. I don't really know. I have what I believe to be her parents names, but I should really check this again.
I do not have the names Ruihia Hinewhare or Tuera Kawahe but I suspect that these are the same people as I mentioned.
You will get some information from this http://www.ngatitoa.iwi.nz/sitecontent/images/Folders/General/Utauta-Rene.pdf
Hope this helps
