looking for any info on Raharuhi Whanau
RAHARUHI, William or Wiremu: I'm looking for any info on my Great grand-father, he married my Great grand-mother Eparata Gardiner, and lived together on the pa just out of town in Dannevirke. He is buried at my Great grand-mother's marae Whiti-te-ra.
please any info on this man and his Whanau would be greatly appreciated.
Kia Ora Kimbo
My great grandmother was Rahera Raharuhi, i didn't know her whanau and have come to learn about them through research. i have learned that she is of Ngati Kuri from Te Hapua. Maybe you could try looking that way as well. There is an old koroua who can tell you about the Raharuhi Whanau from Ngati Kuri, his name is Glass Mare (Murray) and has a brother Rueben Mare they are in their 80s, but Glass is the one to approach. However, the whanau there will not give out whakapapa over the internet, i have approached them and they have requested me to visit them and stay over at the marae. Unfortunately i cannot travel there. Anyway,i hope this can be of some support. There is a Raharuhi whanau page on facebook you might want to look into. 🙂
Tena koe Kimbo. The Raharuhi whanau of Danniverke/Tamaki Nui A Rua come from Anaru Putaitai Tuhokairangi and Maata Waiata Pahura. Their eldest son was named Raharuhi Anaru born in Wairarapa. I think this is probably where your Koro came from given where he lived and died. Do you have anymore information that can link him further?
