Need help tracing genealogy.

I am a part Maori living in Australia - can someone suggest the first steps I should take to tracing my NZ roots?

Thanks

Well you have taken the first steps in a marvellous odyssey.

Firstly, you will need the name of the person through which you are descended e.g. grandmothers maiden name...the more detail the better.

Then I feel sure, that others will help fill the blanks of whanau, hapu, iwi that you have sprung from.

Then perhaps you will return home to your turangawaewae and feel the warm embrace of your whanaunga; where your kaumatua can better guide your personal knowledge.

Ka kite
