Whanau,

My whanau (close and extended) have been doing some research into our whakapapa, and we are stuck, and hope that someone might recognise some names to help us along.

In the late 1800's. there was a child born by the name of Ere Kawhena, she was also known as Sarah Coffin.

What we know, is that her father was known as Tawaho - and he is from Ngati Porou. Tawaho also had another child Ihipera. Ihipera's two children were Wi and Mere Waikari.

Kanuka has been trased to Whangaroa, where she married a man called Peter Coffin. On the same day, they 'baptised' a child called Sarah Coffin.

Can anyone shed any light on either Tawaho or Kanuka? We would very much like to try and work out how Kanuka came to be in the far north, and also to work out where exactly these guys were from.

Many thanks in advance.

Kia ora,
Tipana

Kia ora Tipana,

I know of a Te Rewa who married a Peter Coffin and has a child Hera - or Sarah Coffin born about 1881 - died about 1947.

Hera had 5 brothers and sisters and 15 - 16 children - she married a Akuhata.

Could this be the same person?
