Tote (Dorothy) Tapsell b 1842 to Phillip Tapsell and Hine-i-turama.
The NZ Marriage Index 1865/5114 records Dorothy aka To Te Tapsil marrying Thomas aka Tamati SMITH.
The newspaper Daily Southern Cross, 23 March 1872, pg 2 has a death notice for SMITH, Dorothy who died on 14 March 1872 at Maketu.  The notice states she was the "beloved wife of Thomas Smith".
The Whanau-A-Tapihana Reunion 1830-2004 booklet has her partner/husband as Phillip Hutchinson.
Her 3 children which have the surname Hutchinson were born after the 1865 marriage.
Was Tote/Dorothy married to Phillip Hutchinson prior to her 1865 marriage?
Grateful for any clarification.
